Concept preview by Snazzy Sheets. This is a design proposal for C E J Plumbing, not their official website.

Stop the water first. Then ring Jim.

Pick what's happening. It shows you which tap or valve to turn and writes what to tell Jim, so the call is quick.

What's happening?

Stop tap: clockwise to close

Choose what's happening and this will show you how to stop the water, then write what to tell Jim.

Good to know

Water is coming through the ceiling. What do I do first?

Turn the water off at the stop tap (often under the kitchen sink, under the stairs or by the front door: clockwise to close), keep away from wet light fittings and switches, then ring 01482 606544. If you can't find the stop tap or it won't turn, ring anyway: one reviewer was talked through stopping the water on the phone.

Can you come out tonight or at the weekend?

Google lists C E J Plumbing as open 24 hours, and reviewers describe call-outs on a Sunday morning, a Sunday evening and late on a Monday night. Ring and Jim will tell you when he can get there, as it depends on what he's already on.

My boiler has stopped. Is it worth trying anything first?

Check the boiler has power, the thermostat and timer are calling for heat, and the pressure gauge isn't sitting near zero. Note any fault code on the display, then ring. Don't take the casing off.

How much will it cost?

Every job is different, so ring and Jim will talk it through. Reviewers often mention a fair price, including for a Sunday evening call-out.

I can smell gas. Who do I call?

Call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999 straight away. It's free and open 24 hours. Open windows, don't use switches or naked flames, and turn off the gas at the meter if you can.

Rather just ring?

A boiler that has stopped, water through the ceiling, or a radiator you have been meaning to sort. Ring and tell him what's happening.
